Xbox Takes the Kitchen by Storm with Toaster Inspired by Beloved Console

Did you ever notice the striking resemblance between the Microsoft Xbox Series S game console and a toaster? You’re not alone! In fact, someone took this observation to a whole new level by creating an actual toaster designed to look like an Xbox.

This gamer-themed toaster, available exclusively at Walmart online for $40 (currently out of stock), features a wide slot for bagels and Texas toast, a six-setting shade selector, and a digital LED countdown timer.

Equipped with a defrost button for frozen items, a cool-touch exterior to prevent burns, an anti-jam function, automatic temperature control, removable crumb tray, and nonstick coated plates, this toaster seems ready for serious gaming fuel. The most intriguing part? It imprints the iconic Xbox sphere logo on your toast.

A Microsoft representative confirmed its availability at Walmart online in the US and the French video game store Micromania, with plans to expand to other global retailers soon.

While this playful toaster isn’t officially part of the Xbox-PlayStation rivalry, it certainly adds a unique twist to the gaming world. In contrast, the PlayStation 5 was humorously compared to an ice cream sandwich upon its release, though Sony hasn’t ventured into the world of PS5-themed ice cream sandwich makers (yet).

In terms of console sales, the PS5 is outpacing the Xbox by a significant margin, selling 22.5 million units in 2023 compared to 7.6 million for the Xbox Series X and S consoles, according to a Financial Times report. However, in the kitchen realm, it’s the Xbox that’s taking the lead, toasting the competition with its quirky toaster.

This isn’t the first time Xbox has ventured into kitchen-themed products. In 2021, an Xbox mini fridge was released, following the brief appearance of a larger Xbox-themed fridge. Now, gamers can cool their Xbox jets in three sizes — a cooler, a mini fridge, and a larger compact refrigerator.

Reviews on Walmart’s site reflect the delight of users seeing a gamer joke turned into a real, functional appliance.

One reviewer named Roberto expressed surprise at its performance as a toaster, stating, “Haha, so they actually did it. They made another meme come true… I wasn’t sure this would even toast well, but to my surprise, it actually performs really well as a toaster.”

Potential buyers are forewarned — if you want the distinctive X logo on your toast, you’ll need to crank up the heat. It seems the creative minds behind Xbox are more than willing to play with their products, evident from their November giveaway featuring an Xbox console and controller themed for the Wonka film.

The console was chocolate-colored, and one of the controllers was made of pure chocolate, adding a sweet touch to the gaming experience.
